Power 50 at High Trees continues to go from strength to strength, with over 30 individuals receiving support (with early success stories of moving into permanent employment, enrolling on training courses and securing funding to set up their own businesses). Power 50, funded by Battersea Power Station Foundation, works with people over 50, who are unemployed into employment or employed and looking for a career change living in Lambeth and Wandsworth and is a programme of free integrated employment, career and training service designed specifically to equip individuals with the skills and the tools to improve their employment opportunities.
A key part of High Trees approach is to ensure that the programme is shaped by those who use it, and this month saw the second meeting of our Power 50 Committee. The Committee in made up of 6 members who have an understanding of what it is like to be unemployed in their 50’s, either though long or short term unemployment. The members contribute to the overall strategy and direction of the Power 50’s project shaping the employment future for the over 50’s and pushing for change. The committee has already started to identify barriers faced by this cohort allowing us to adapt and our approach and services.
