High Trees Community Organisers’ programme is all about inspiring community action at a neighbourhood level. Our Community Organisers have been listening to Tulse Hill residents for the past three years. Their aim, through listening, is to build trust, respect and relationships in the local community. They help local people identify what’s important to them in their community and encourage and help them take action on their own behalf on the local issues that matter to them without doing for them what they can do for themselves.
The aims of this approach are:
The Community Organisers have been based at High Trees since March 2013 and so far along with community volunteers have listened to well over 2000 residents. Through this approach they have supported a number of small resident led projects in the Tulse Hill neighbourhood, from street parties and community events to campaigns.
They have helped support a group of residents on St Martin’s estate on their journey to becoming a fully established TRA.
They have supported the Tulse Hill Forum in their journey to ensure the people of Tulse Hills vision for the future of the area is reflected accurately in the neighbourhood plan for Tulse Hill. They are also providing continued training to help raise awareness about what Neighbourhood planning is as well as what other Community rights available to local people.
Local residents that have been working with our Community Organisers, learning the approach have gone on to become involved in the StreetWorks Project, listening to local businesses and getting access to Project management Training amongst many other things.
