What our Users say about High Trees

“I think Youth Club should be on more so that everyone can come together because Wednesdays everyone looks forward to on Tulse Hill.”

Young Person Aged 14, Tulse Hill Estate

“Times became financially very hard I felt that I had so many skills to offer I was going for interviews but was not being offered any jobs. I was rapidly losing confidence in being employed again. A string of events led me to High Trees Development project. I am at present in the process of doing the CIH Training and have previously completed a one day Art Of Confident Speaking Workshop. The standards of training at High Trees is second to none. As a result I am very excited and confident about my future prospects and work opportunities.”

Gloria, St Martin’s Estate

“I’ve lived on the St Martins estate since 1974 but it wasn’t until 2014 that I was prompted to use High Trees.  I had a serious repair issue emerge out of the blue and needed help, then I saw a leaflet for a resident meeting to talk about repairs on the estate and went along. During the meeting I also heard about the range of services High Trees had to offer through one of the High Trees Community Organisers.

I realised that in order to get his repairs complaint sorted out by my housing association I would need to confront my inability to use computers and so subsequently signed up for an 8 week beginner computer IT course with High Trees. But I also became part of the group that went on to form the new St Martins TRA and become part of the St Martin’s community centre committee.

Everyone at High Trees has made me feel uplifted and inspired to carry on pursing a voice for myself and other local people.”

Dennis, St Martin’s Estate

“ I did the Business Enterprise course and it made me realise that I wanted to do more studying to get the qualifications I needed.  I’m now studying for a BSC in Audio Production at Middlesex University”

“Places like Youth Club help because everyone can just come here and chill instead of being on the road”

“I would highly recommend the Adult Education and Training course at High Trees and indeed have been recommending it, for excellent teaching, the after care and support they have provided.”

Margaret, Streatham

“I used to work in Central London as a PA; however, In 2014 I had to leave my job to go back to Ecuador to care for my sick mother. When I came back I didn’t know what I wanted to do or how to find work. I felt like I needed something to refresh my knowledge and confidence.  I came to High Trees and after a good long chat with a member of staff and decided to sign up for the Adult Education and Training course. It was incredible how supportive the team at High Trees was towards me.

The course I attended was outstanding, the trainer gave her 100% and adapted her teaching to the different needs of us, the learners; using differentiation, equality and always demonstrating an incredibly good knowledge of the subject and all of which put the course on a very High Standard Level.  As a result, I applied for a job within the Education, Employment and Training Department within High Trees Community Development and succeeded in my application! My journey with High Trees started on the day I came to do an enquiry and has not finished yet. I am really grateful for the passion, and true commitment the Team at High Trees.”

“ It was a long course and the tutor was really thorough.  I didn’t get a job straight away and was worried that I would forget everything I’d learnt. But I didn’t give up! Now I’m a Support Worker for Metropolitan Housing Trust”

“I am more confident with my English now and the course has helped me to enjoy reading with my children”

Rona (ESOL Course)

“The support and encouragement from people I met on the course was inspiring. It really helped me to focus on setting up my own business. It helped me to create a business plan for the project that I’m setting up”
