Led by High Trees and set up in 2016, Building Young Brixton is a consortium of ten Lambeth-based youth service providers focused on creating opportunities for young people to thrive. In April, the partnership launched a new Youth Voice and Leadership programme to embed youth voice in our operational delivery and to create new ways for the partnership to effectively address challenges being faced by young people.
Our first cohort of 8 young leaders recently came to an end with positive feedback from the young people who took part, with 67% reporting improved well-being and all young leaders reporting improved confidence. 83% of the young people involved said they now felt more able to influence local service delivery, with one young leader commenting that:
“My mindset has changed! It’s different when you are part of the change. Now I feel that whenever I want to see a change, I know I will be able to do it because I have done it before.”
