The first term of the academic year has been a successful one for adult learning at High Trees, with hundreds of learners from across Lambeth taking part in courses designed to build skills, confidence and connections. Every term, we run a range of free courses including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), English and maths functional skills, digital skills, and a variety of wellbeing and vocational courses.
Between September and December, 269 learners accessed our courses. For 133 people this was their first time joining a course at High Trees. This means that almost half (49%) of our learners were accessing our service for the first time, highlighting the continued demand for accessible learning opportunities within our community.
Learning that makes a difference
This term, 100% of learners reported feeling able to build their knowledge and learn new skills through their course, while 89% said they are applying what they have learned in their daily lives, in their communities or at work.
The impact of our courses goes beyond gaining qualifications or learning new skills. Learners also reported significant benefits to their confidence, wellbeing and social connections. 94% reported an increase in their personal health, wellbeing or confidence and 92% made new friends through their course.
Together, these outcomes demonstrate the wider value of adult learning. Our courses provide people with practical skills and knowledge, while also creating opportunities to build confidence, develop relationships and become more connected to their communities.
As we look ahead to the next term, we’re proud of the progress made by our learners and the continued role High Trees plays in creating accessible learning opportunities for people across Lambeth.
