When Amira joined High Trees’ Build Your Future programme, she was looking for more than just a job. She wanted the confidence and support to take the next step towards a career she could be proud of.
Today, she’s doing exactly that, having secured an apprenticeship as a Data Controller.
Designed to support young people in Lambeth and Southwark who are not currently in education, employment or training. Build Your Future provides personalised guidance to help participants overcome barriers and move towards employment or further education.
For Amira, that support made all the difference.

Working alongside her advisor, Amira received tailored support with career planning, strengthening her CV, preparing for interviews and applying for opportunities that matched her ambitions. The programme also provides financial support where needed, helping remove practical barriers that can prevent young people from accessing work.
Amira’s story demonstrates how personalised guidance, encouragement and practical support can help young people recognise their potential and take positive steps towards their future.
“I can see a lot of changes in myself physically, mentally and emotionally as well. Having a job, it means you’ve got a routine now, so waking up in the morning, I’m looking forward to each day. It changed my mindset a lot.”
High Trees delivers Build Your Future in partnership with the Indo-American Refugee and Migrant Organisation (IRMO), providing tailored employment support to young people not currently employment, education or training. The programme supports young people who face complex barriers to employment, with a focus on young people leaving care, those with SEND needs, migrants, and refugees.
