Improving wellbeing through learning

At High Trees, we believe learning can support much more than the development of new skills. It can help people build confidence, improve their wellbeing, connect with others and take steps towards their long-term goals.

Our wellbeing focused courses, including yoga, stress management, The Art of Confident Speaking and jewellery making, provide accessible opportunities for local people to learn, try something new and invest in themselves.

Our jewellery making sessions at local Children’s Centres are one example of how we’re working to make learning more accessible for parents. While their children are looked after in the on-site crèche, parents can take time for themselves and learn practical jewellery-making techniques in a welcoming environment.

Our yoga courses have also provided learners with an opportunity to improve their physical and emotional wellbeing. For some people, the cost of classes can be a barrier to accessing activities that support their health and wellbeing. By providing these opportunities free of charge, High Trees can help make activities such as yoga more accessible to people who may not otherwise be able to afford them.

The feedback from our wellbeing courses demonstrates the difference these opportunities can make. 100% of participants across our wellbeing courses said it helped them increase personal health. wellbeing, and confidence. Meanwhile, 97% said that the course had helped them get closer to their long-term goals.

These outcomes show that accessible adult learning can have an impact far beyond the classroom. Whether someone is learning a new creative skill, trying yoga for the first time or developing their confidence, the opportunity to learn can support people to feel better, connect with others and take positive steps towards their future.

At High Trees, we’re committed to creating learning opportunities that are accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our community, helping people develop new skills while supporting their wellbeing, confidence and aspirations.
