In September 2023 High Trees introduced an exciting new addition to our adult education offer – an accredited Digital Skills for Work course. Thanks to funding from Lambeth Adult Learning, this course has begun equipping learners with specialist digital skills to boost their employability.
In the autumn we ran our first Digital Skills for Work course at Entry 3. During the course, learners mastered Excel, learning useful formulas and creating graphs, they became confident using PowerPoint and gained an understanding of important e-safety principles.
Learners enrolling onto the course had big ambitions, some aspiring to become IT specialists, wishing to pursue a career in data and business analysis and others simply wanting to improve their IT skills to progress to the next level. We’re thrilled with the success of the course so far! After the first term, 13 learners achieved the new qualification, with a 100% success rate overall.
Many learners plan to use their new qualification to help them get a job or progress in their career journey. One learner shared, “The courses I have enrolled in at High Trees have given me a foundation to build on to achieve my bigger goals in life. I feel few more steps closer in achieving my dreams. High Trees have stimulated my willingness to learn and achieve all my career goals.”
Attending the course also had a ripple effect on learners’ wellbeing. Several learners reported that it helped them to meet new people, make friends and reduced feelings of loneliness. As one participant said, “this course had helped me to get out of the house, avoid isolation and meet new people.”
Due to the success of last term’s Entry 3 course, we are excited to announce that in the spring term we will be running an additional Level 1 Digital Skills for Work course, alongside another Entry 3 course. This is great news for all learners who passed their Entry 3 in the autumn, as it allows them to seamlessly continue building their digital skills at the next level.
